We went to Nacho Daddy for lunch today, on a daring attempt to do something outside the house. Being very much in an Avengers frame of mind last week, I reread this collection. A new @rupertholmesmusic novel is always something to get excited about and this one is no exception. In so many ways this reminded me in tone of the Avengers TV series. The idea of a very proper mid-20th century school for assassins feels very much like the sort of quirky place Steed and Mrs Peel would be assigned to investigate. It was funny and twisty and I loved it. Even though it took me longer than usual to get through, but that was more due to too many other distractions rather than anything to do with the book. I’ve been a fan of Rupert Holmes since seeing Remember WENN on AMC back when AMC Original series were hardly a common thing. (I can rewatch the series on AMC+, but I’m not ready to start paying for another streaming service.) Now I want to reread Swing, because I’m in a Rupert Holmes frame of mind, because it’ll probably be a few years at least before we get a new book from him, and because a lot of it is set at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley, where we stayed last January. #thismakesmehappy #books #2023reading #bookstagram #murderyouremployer #rupertholmes #avidreaderpress

My wife’s favorite kaiju is Godzilla. Her second favorite is Mothra. Last Christmas I got her this cool Mothra set from @mezcotoyz and we both love it.
